When I arrived in Phoenix as a new Air Force recruit, fresh out of Air Traffic Control school, it was in the year 1970. As I became familiar with the area, I also noticed the location of some of the Ford dealers in town, and it wasn’t long before I found time to stop by some of them to look over their cars.
I remember one dealership in particular had a great selection of performance cars, and that’s the first time I remember seeing the rare 1970 Falcon, equipped with a 429 Cobra-jet. It was the same basic chassis as the 1970 Torino, and Torino Cobra, just a lower trim level with a 2-door post body. It was cool to see all those models together on the same car lot. That memory has stuck in my mind for over 50 years now.
