Darwin’s Garage Archive

Over the last 10 years I have issued 292 posts on my blog, about many subjects relating to cars, and the life of a “car guy”.  All of these past posts are available for anyone to check out in my blog archive.  They cover many topics related to cars, some maintenance issues, and other topics on my mind as time went by. I may not be doing many new posts from now on, but I hope people will look through the archive, and find some past posts of interest to them.

Also, check out my book “ Grab Some Gears - 40 Years of Street Racing “ on Amazon.com.  When you find it on Amazon, you can read sample pages, and read reviews.

Made in America

Follower’s of this blog, and any of my social media accounts, are well aware that I am a Mustang fan. I have owned many of them over the last fifty some years, and also a couple of Dodge Chargers. Even though I have also owned a few foreign cars over the years, my favorites have always been “Made in America”.

Now days, with all that is going on in this country, does that still mean something to most people? We have politicians who seem to want to make this country part of Mexico, filling this country with illegal foreigners, and wanting to give them the right to vote in our elections. How long will this stay the real American we have loved and defended our whole lives? Wake up people, what are you doing to our country?

Long Hot Summer

We have already got a good start on a hot summer, and we’re expecting 114 degrees today. The long range forecast has this trend continuing for many months, with above average temperatures and dryer than usual conditions for this side of the country.

In our part of the country, we’re used to plenty of hot weather, that’s normal for us, but this is looking like an extra hot summer even for us. We just have to keep our daily routine ready for the extra hot and dry conditions. I’m doing my best to stay ready for a “Long Hot Summer”.

Grab Some Gears

Every couple of months I post about my book on the social media sites that I use. It’s the only way I have these days to advertise my book to car enthusiasts who may be interested in reading it. Most of the people who see my posts on social media are at least somewhat of a fan of beautiful performance cars, or some of the other things that are meaningful to me as well.

Anyone interested in the life of a car guy, can find my book, and read some sample pages, just follow this link: Grab Some Gears

Heartland

Father’s Day over the weekend had me thinking about my dad. He has been gone over 30 years now, and only lived to the age of 67. He had a hard life.

Anyone familiar with the “Heartland”  television series might have an appreciation for the type of life he lived, and the kind of culture I grew up in. My dad was a lifelong farmer and rancher in the plains of southwestern South Dakota. Many of the same types of family drama that happened in the Heartland series, was a familiar part of our family story as well, . . except . , not as much about horses for us. I was more interested in the vehicles rather than the horses (there is a Heartland episode that addresses that also).

The years have gone by now, my grandfather has been gone for 50 years, my dad for over 30, and the farm sold 10 years ago. Now all just part of my memories. I love watching the Heartland television series, it brings back so many memories of my past. I think it’s one of the best shows of all time.

Darrell D. Dirks ,  my dad.

Finally Friday

Sometimes you have one of those weeks when you’re glad it’s finally Friday. Busy days of taking care of business, plenty of appointments, and handling all the health and fitness issues that have to fit into the hot weather arriving. That’s been my experience this past week.

In our part of the country, we are already into the 100 degree days. It will be around 80 degrees when I get my morning walk in before the sun pops up over the eastern horizon. It’s all fine, but requires some adjustment to fit everything into the daily schedule. Fun times. Glad it’s finally Friday.

For anyone interested, check out my book. You can find it on amazon.com , and read some sample pages, just follow this link: Grab Some Gears

Monday Morning Mustangs

This is the way we like to start a new week, with the best Mustang pictures we can find. That is a routine many of us serious Mustang enthusiasts have found to be the best way to start our week with the a positive attitude.

The world is a stressful place these days, and we need to find ways to avoid getting caught up in all the negative emotions. I choose the best distraction available to relieve the stress of this modern life. That means trying to enjoy my love of beautiful and inspiring cars.

The world is full of many excellent cars to enjoy observing from a distance. Most of them way too expensive to ever own myself, but beautiful to admired. Mustangs are the only ones I have actually had the pleasure of owning and driving.  They will always be a favorite for me.
